Calypso Trend

My favourite summer trend of all! What Topshop are calling the "Calypso Trend" has it all. Bright glowing neons, outgoing prints, dip-dye, rough denim, and metalic body skimming peices that all shout "look at me!". This look is about being daring, creative and making a statement, so if you're not into bold colours and crazy patterns, you could always tone it down by blending it in with calmer trends. But with this trend, it's all about attitude.

Tropical, Hawiian prints are definatley tricky to pull off, especially if you're matching your dads embarrising holiday shirt, but when you get it right it can look wild and outgoing or laid-back and relaxed; it's up to how you style it! These garish patterend shorts from Topshop look abstract from a distance, but when you look closer the pattern is made up of colourful flowers and leaves. The two symetrical zips down the sides of the shorts make it look more edgy and modern, giving this relaxed pair of shorts a twist. The pattern also comes in ciggarette trousers and a halter top.

Calypso trend isn't only for parties that never sleep, it can also be laid-back. Tie-dye comes in a variety of colours and most blues and yellows are quite calming and peaceful. To make this work, you don't want to go full on hippy; one statement piece of tie-dye is creative enough. There are a wide range of tie-dye tee's like this one from COW, but you don't have to stick to tee's. Everything is being tie-dyed now, from leggings to shirts, so be adventurous and see what you can find!

Lime green is a tricky colour to work with anyway without it being neon, but if you want to go bright, you can't get brighter than this! Be carefull you don't get mistaken for a traffic light when wearing this lime crop top from River Island! It also has bows on the back which give it that extra touch! Tone it down for day with white and gold and live it up at night with a black contrast or even another neon colour!

If you're looking for denim, Topshop have the best selection around! From denim shirts, jeans, shorts, skirts, and this long sleeless shirt i found whilst browsing in their denim library. For an outgoing look i'd style this with bright patterned leggings, Dr Martens and some neon rimmed sunnies. Resist pairing denim with denim most of the time, and certainly not with this piece, but a denim jacket and jeans is just about acceptable if you style it right! If you're a bit like Gok and you want to be creative, you could style this up a bit by adding gold studs along the shoulders or collar! Alternatively, you could just shop around!
